John Hawkes Busy With Pilot And Movies

Have you been wondering how John Hawkes has been keeping busy? He was the only character in Deadwood to stay calm in the middle of the storyline madness. I'm looking forward to seeing whether his characters can maintain that calm in his new ventures.

He stars in "East Bound and Down," (no, it is not anything like the old Burt Reynolds film of the same name). This HBO pilot is set to be shown this fall in the 2008-2009 season. The show includes Jennifer Irwin, Danny R. McBride and Andrew Daly, and has good reviews.

In late 2008 or in 2009 also watch for John in two drama movies, "The Pardon," and "Small Town Saturday Night."

Earlier today I saw a familiar face on a television ad for a new drama that will air this summer on CBS. The woman's hair was reddish-blonde but I kept thinking, "Why does she seem so familiar?" Then I realized that I was looking at Molly Parker (who played Alma Garret in Deadwood).

She will play the role of one of the principal characters, Susan Miller. The first show premiers TOMORROW, June 5, 2008, at 10pm/9central. SEE IT!

Garret Dillahunt has not been taking a break since Deadwood ended. He has been busy working on several movies and television show episodes.

Currently Garret is acting in these movies:

-- Water Pills, now in post-production (starring Winona Ryder)
-- The Last House on the left, currently filming in South Africa
-- The Road, currently filming at Conneault Lake Park, PA

Considering his versatility in Deadwood (he convincingly played several characters including Jack McCall and Francis Wolcott), it is no surprise that he is a sought-after actor. Usually he plays the "bad" guy... lets hope he gets another JHC role!

I'll admit that I admired Ian McShane a long time before he played a foul-mouthed saloon owner on Deadwood. He acted in the British series "Lovejoy" from 1986 to 1994, playing an antique dealer sometimes on the edge of the law, but brilliant in determining whether an object was priceless or a forgery.

Powers Boothe, an accomplished actor who played the evil Cy Tolliver in Deadwood will be starring in some interesting movies to be released in 2008 and 2009.

Currently filming "Edison and Leo," Boothe plays "Edison" to Gregory Smith's "Leo." (In a "Deadwood coincidence," Smith played opposite Ian McShane in the moving "The Dark is Rising.") The bizarre plot focuses on Edison's son Leo who is accidentally electrocuted as a child and grows up to be "Electric Boy." Naturally expect strange events to follow.

Boothe is also one of the actors in "Sin City 2" that is in pre-production and slated to be released in 2009. This is a sequel to "Sin City," and he plays the character of Senator Roark.

According to TV Guide's Ausiello Report, Timothy Olyphant has accepted a role on ABC's "Samantha Who?"--playing the new bos and potential love interest to the leading lady, Christina Applegate. Reportedly he has just started filming, and so don't expect to see him on the show until December or January.

TV Guide goes on to call the show "irresistible," although I haven't watched it yet. MeeVee calls the show "aggressively mediocre," so lets hope Tim can pull the show out of the doldrums.

The City of Albuquerque, New Mexico will be the location of a television series called "Breaking Bad." Production has begun with eight episodes planned. Shooting will end in December of 2007.

The creator is none other than Vincent Gilligan, who was executive producer for the X-Files. It will star Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Aaron Paul, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt and RJ Mitte.

It is truly not a surprise that "John From Cincinnati" has been cancelled. I do not blame ANY of the actors... they were spectacular. My personal applause for including several of the actors from "Deadwood." My personal opinion is that the plot was simply too convoluted and odd (odd as in "wayyyyyy out there").

The strangeness of the plot did not allow NEW viewers to follow the plot if they tuned in late. My husband found the plot made him feel nauseous. It is no wonder that the viewers agreed by turning to other options in that time slot.

Does this mean that things are looking up for Deadwood... I hope so, but I doubt it!

Hitman Photograph (Poster and Trailer) A Dud?

The word is out that the new "official" Hitman Photograph released on August 16th, along with the Hitman Poster (and with the trailer) released earlier are not as exciting and spectacular as fans expected them to be.

The trailer has brief (and I MEAN BRIEF) snippets showing Hitman (played by Timothy Olyphant). Hopefully they are saving the best for the movie, that is expected to be released October 12, 2007. I know Tim doesn't have any say as to what the movie's press agents are releasing so far... but lets say the word "lame" comes to mind.

HOWEVER, some unofficial "stills" of the movie are floating around, with Tim looking very Agent 47ish!! Go Tim!

Actually Ian will be starring In Universal Pictures movie "Death Race," as a coach of prison inmate in a future America who competes against others, and points are given when you kill a pedestrian.

Other actors will be Jason Stratham (The Transporter), Tyrese Gibson (Waist Deep, Four Brothers), and Joan Allan (Pamela Landy)

It is due for release September 26, 2008, and filming will probably start sometime this year. Keep your ear to the ground!

Ian McShane Coming Home errr Homecoming!

According to The Film Geek Confidential, Variety reports that Tony Award nominee Raul Esparaza and Michael McKean will join Ian McShane in an upcoming Broadway revival of Harold Pinter's THE HOMECOMING (in its 40th anniversary revival).

The play will preview at the Cort Theatre November 16 and open on December 4th 2007. The Corr Theatre is located at 138 West 48th Street in New York City.

The future is looking grim for any chance of our seeing the Deadwood movies that were rumored when HBO: Deadwood ended.

The Black Hill Pioneers has an article that talks about how the actors from Deadwood are no longer under contract, and are moving on to other projects. And after all of the hoopla about John from Cincinnati, it may be cancelled (if you watched the most recent of this series... the world surreal comes to mind.)

John From Cincinnati Gives Me Deadwood Flashbacks

If you are a Deadwood fan still going through withdrawal, perhaps you should move on to the new HBO series: "John from Cincinnati."

You will see an amazing number of old, familiar friends. Playing the lead is Austin Nichols. If he doesn't seem familiar, it's because he is just too clean cut. He played a scruffy Morgan Earp on 2 episodes of Deadwood.

Jim Beaver (Ellsworth on Deadwood) plays Vietnam Joe, and it looks like he is going to be a regular.

In Episode Two you get to see two more Deadwood characters make guest appearances. Dayton Callie (aka Charlie Utter on Deadwood) plays a hitman who may be responsible for an earthquake, and Garret Dillahunt (aka Francis Wolcott and also Jack McCall on Deadwood) who plays the Dr. Smith who has to give the Yost family some bad news.

I not only am enjoying this new series... but I'm looking forward to see who else from Deadwood will pop out of the woodwork. Plus I'm hearing my weekly daily dose of swear words.

According to various sources, Deadwood's "Sol Star" is keeping busy these days. He not only has a role in "American Gangster," (movie release November 2nd) but he is doing another HBO pilot.

This time he's in a comedy called "East Bound and Down," where Hawkes will play brother to the lead (played by Danny McBride). Other actors include Katy Mixon, and Andrew Daly.

The plot revolves around a burned-out former professional baseball pitcher who returns to his small Southern hometown, where the only job he can find is as a substitute gym teacher.

The word is out that strange things are happening in Sofia, Bulgaria. Locals recently saw what looked like a Russian rally in front of their National Theatre... apparently it a scene from the film Hitman.

A Bald Olyphant (Agent 47) Chased by Dougray Scott

From several sources it is reported that Luc Besson, producer of Hitman, has signed up Scottish actor, Dougray Scott, who will oppose Olyphant's character in the movie.

Timothy Olyphant is already scheduled to play Agent 47, a bald, genetically engineered assassin. The movie is due to open on October 12, 2007

NBC has developed a dramatic pilot for the 2007-08 season. Writer Rand Ravich expands a the plot about a cop who uses a Zen-like approach to capture criminals. "Life," from NBC Universal TV Studio, follows the story of a cop who's wrongly imprisoned. He's eventually released and rejoins the force as a changed man. This will be an hour-long show. Far Shariat is aboard as an executive producer.

Adam Arkin ("Chicago Hope") will star opposite Damian Lewis as the major actors. Arkin will play an inside trader who befriended Lewis' character in prison and now rents a room from him.

In the same T.V. drama, Robin Weigert ("Deadwood") will play Damian Lewis' boss, Lt. Davis.

Ian McShane to star in "The Dark and Rising"

Ian McShane will be appearing in yet another movie (yay!). This time he will play the role of Merriman Lyon in the movie, "The Dark is Rising." In the book, Merriman is the first Old One, and is role is to be both mentor and shield to the story's young hero.

The movie is based on the book by Susan Cooper, about a boy whose life is changed when he learns he is the last of a group of immortal warriors "who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the dark."

Shooting is due to begin later this month, in Romania.

Other actors include Alexander Ludwig of Lifetime's "A Little Thing Called Murder (the teenage hero); Gregory Smith of TV's "Everwood" (as the hero's older brother); Christopher Eccleston who plays Claude the invisible man on "Heroes (the evil villain, The Rider); Frances Conroy of "The Wicker Man," "Shopgirl," and HBO:Six Feet Under; Amelia Warner, Emma Lockhart, Gary Entin, Edmund Entin, Jonathan Jackson and John Benjamin Hickey.

“…wants to set the record straight: He is not in the upcoming movie based on the "Hitman" video game. "God bless the Internet for putting it out there," he laughed, shaking his head.

"That sounds like a fun job, but that's not a for-sure thing." Olyphant added that he's barely familiar with the game, and there's a good chance that he won't end up playing the deadly Agent 47. "I'm familiar with the fact that there's this dude in a black suit and a red tie with a bald head who just seems to probably kick ass," he said. "But that's about all I know."

This was very coy. Actually there have been several other reliable sources that state Tim IS going to play the lead in Hitman.

According to the Buffalo News: "Milch said he is collaborating with writer Evan Wright ("Generation Kill") on the first "Deadwood" movie, which will be set in 1879. "

"We're very optimistic about the outcome of that work," said Milch. "It's our intention that just the moment that we complete production on "John From Cincinnati' to begin work on that."
He added that series lead Ian McShane has deferred a Broadway role for two months to film the movie, the actors have signed contracts and everything seems to be going as planned.

Timothy Olyphant is starring in the comedy movie, "Bill."

Aaron Eckhart has already been cast as a man going through a mid-life crisis whose wife has an affair with a local newscaster (Olyphant) that is caught on tape and broadcast over the Internet. The female lead is Jessica Alba.

Lindsay Lohan, originally picked to play a role, dropped out of the film due to scheduling conflicts with her other commitments.

GreeneStreet Filiming began shooting began in May of this year in upstate New York. It is now in post production.

A 2007 release has been scheduled.

The Golden Compass, that was set to release next year (December 7, 2007) has a spanking brand new web site that only offers the basics of information, but is pure eye-candy.

According to Comingsoon.com, the plot is "based on the bestselling Philip Pullman novels, the "His Dark Materials" trilogy is comprised of "The Golden Compass," "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass". It revolves around a young girl who travels to the far north to save her best friend. Along the way she encounters shape-shifting creatures, witches, and a variety of otherworldly characters in parallel universes."

Ian McShane has a minor role. He will be "voicing" the role of Iorek Byrnison (an armoured bear). Ian Filming Case 39

As mentioned in an earlier post, Paramount Pictures is filming Case 39, a horror/thriller co-starirng Jodelle Ferland (Silent Hill) and Ian McShane (Deadwood). It hits American theaters on August 12th, 2007.

Plot: Zellweger will play a social worker whose investigation into the case of an abused 10-year-old girl leads her to at first suspect the parents, but later to discover that things are not as they first appear. McShane plays the cop who helps Zellweger's character investigate the case.

Twentieth Century Fox apparently has dumped Vin Diesel as the star of the action movie, Hitman, replacing him with Timothy Olyphant.

The movie is the adaptation of the Eidos video game of the same name. The film may be in theaters as early as next fall.

The R-rated movie "Coastlines" had a limited released in May 2006, and it is still making the rounds. Timothy Olyphant plays Sonny Mann, an ex-con who returns home from prison, and gets into trouble.

Just as in HBO:Deadwood, Olyphant's character has an explosive temper, and that perhaps is the common thread between the two.
